Government Relations

Crestwood understands building strong relationships with local, state, federal and tribal elected officials and regulators is essential to our continued success. Our government relations team proactively facilitates meaningful dialogue about Crestwood’s operations and potential impacts from proposed policies and regulations.

Our Approach

In 2021, Crestwood’s opportunities for in-person meetings with elected officials and regulatory agencies remained limited as result of the ongoing pandemic. Thus, similarly to 2020, Crestwood continued to actively leverage its trade association memberships. This allowed us to stay connected with our industry peers and trade representatives, especially during legislative and regulatory sessions.

External Voice

For more than a decade, a number of local government entities have come together each summer to host a bipartisan team of DC staffers for the purpose of showcasing our region's energy industry. Crestwood has been a valuable partner, providing the staffers with a genuinely welcoming and educational tour of the Bucking Horse facility. We believe the inclusion of the natural gas story is critical to giving our guests a well-rounded experience of our region's abundant resources and how they can continue to power our nation in a clean, affordable way for years to come.

Contributing to the Energy Industry

Crestwood actively participates in various trade associations across the country. These associations advocate for industry best practices and standards, provide leadership and engagement and increase public awareness of our industry and commitments to the communities where we operate.

Our Government Affairs team and internal subject matter experts hold leadership positions and serve on various committees to advocate Crestwood’s policy priorities and concerns. Crestwood’s Founder, Chairman and CEO, Robert G. Phillips, leads by example through serving on the Board for the Energy Infrastructure Council (EIC) and leading the EIC ESG Working Group with co-chair Alan Armstrong, President and Chief Executive Officer of Williams.

In December 2020, the  EIC ESG Working Group, in collaboration with GPA Midstream, released the first-ever Midstream ESG Reporting Template. This reporting template is the product of extensive review of best-practice ESG reporting among EIC member companies and the ESG reporting requirements from numerous key stakeholders. In 2021, we focused on wide-spread adoption and enhancing the metrics in the reporting template to provide more rigor as the industry makes progress on its ESG journey. Version 2.0 of the ESG reporting template has been utilized in this reporting cycle.

In addition, in 2021 Mr. Phillips was also appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Energy to serve on the National Petroleum Council, which advises the U.S. Department of Energy on oil and gas related matters.
